CloudBerry Backup – Multi Functional and Multiple Storage Backup Software

Manufacturer: CloudBerry Lab | Model: Server Edition | Origin: Nicosia, Cyprus | Website: www.cloudberrylab.com | Price: $79.99

Simplicity Value Documentation
5/5 4/5 4.5/5
Functionality Performance Overall
4.5/5 5/5 92%

The Good
Ticked all the boxes, is stable and works well once setup. It is a one-off price, not a yearly fee.

The Bad
Not too much really. Could possibly improve the manual with images to illustrate operation, explain the pros and cons of encryption and add key based encryption (e.g. OpenPGP).

Conclusion
I came across CloudBerry Lab about three years ago and revisit it in October this year after having problems with Duplicati. It is tough to find a reasonably priced product that includes: various storage, compression, encryption (inc ssl), versioning (auto deletion), FTP and full scheduling email notification. CloudBerry offers massive potential, covers all the above points and more. Most importantly it offers true privacy due to SSL transfer protection and client side encryption rather than server side, which a lot of cheap backup services do. Perfect for basic to advanced backup with other products covering Exchange, SQL and more.

The negative points already have fixes on the roadmap like: iPhone and Android applications, desktop software and true two factor authentication.

Conclusion

YubiKey - Two-Factor Authentication

Manufacturer: Yubico | Model: Standard | Origin: Stockholm, Sweden | Website: www.yubico.com | Price: $25 + VAT & P&P

Simplicity Value Documentation
4/5 5/5 5/5
Functionality Performance Overall
5/5 5/5 96%

The Good
Fast, reliable and simple to use. Waterproof, crushproof and no battery to run out.

The Bad
Initial setup may be difficult for novice users, depending on the function. There are only two storage slots at present. If lost or stolen some features cannot be remotely turned off – don’t rely on it solely for authentication.

Conclusion
A cracking RSA style replacement, which is easier, quicker and more affordable to use. No massive server licence to buy or setup. From $25 + VAT per token it is far more affordable than most others and generally works out of the box, without a management console. It is truly a one stop shop since one device could potentially secure Wi-Fi, VPN and be used to login to Windows. Perfect even for the typical home consumer who wants to secure a password store.
